  scope of services: The aim of the project was to increase energy efficiency, to identify energy-saving measures in German GVZ (freight villages) and to share this knowledge with other GVZ (freight villages). Interviews with the GVZ-Entwicklungsgesellschaften and other companies in the GVZ (freight villages) was used for this purpose.

  scope of services: In 2012 the LUB Consulting GmbH was commissioned to evaluate the master plan and business model of the Freight Village Kaluga situated to the south of Moscow. The following items were the main focuses in the development of the freight village in the planning region in Kaluga: recommendation for product and settlement policy, master plan including development planning, zoning regarding the types of use, dimensioning of plots and buildings according to the building and planning regulations, dimensioning of container transhipments terminal, business planning with recommendations for operating model, cost estimation and economic analysis as well as investment calculation using different methods for the container transhipments terminal, as well as the development of a Balanced Scorecard (BSC) for the strategic direction of the freight village and for the performance assessment.

  scope of services: The train formation yard and maintenance of waggons and repair of trains for BLG AutoRail Gmbh and third parties should be developed in Uebigau/Falkenberg. The usage model for this location provides the functions for waggon parking and back up, train composition as well as preventive inspection, service and maintenance. The activities of LUB included capacity determination on the base of transport concept, coordination of the overall project, coordination with DB Netz (safety systems, operating technology) as well as with specialist planners and contractors.

  scope of services: The subject of the report was the analysis of traffic-related, economic and environmental effects associated with the implementation of Freight Villages (FV). The report is intended to contribute to the implementation of the 4D measure "initiative for City Logistics" of the plan for freight transport and logistics, including the effects of FV as interfaces for logistic supply services in cities.

Elaboration of railway traffic design concept for inter-municipal business park Kühnsdorf, in collaboration with: ISL Bremen Freight Village Dresden/municipality Eberndorf (Austria)
  scope of services: The Kühndorf / Carinthia railway station is an important locational factor for the proposed inter-municipal business park that will provide the attractive conditions for intensive transport service and manufacturing companies with its convenient location to both the motorway and the railway main line (Koralmbahn). For this purpose, a master plan was created.

Feasibility studies for the trimodal transhipment facilities in the port Arneburg City Arneburg/Elbe
  scope of services: The object of the feasibility study was to investigate the technological and economic feasibility of a port of transshipment with its own harbor loading equipment. For this purpose, the potential and the requirements of the local companies were acquired and the dimensions and technical configuration of the trimodal transhipment facilities were derived. Further variants were evaluated for an operator model.

  scope of services: Between 2010 and 2013 the LUB was involved in the BATCo project. In this context, in 2013 a feasibility study was developed for a new intermodal transport offer between Villach / Fürnitz and Venice. Firstly, a potential analysis was carried out, including the determination of rail potentials in Austria and Italia. The result of the analysis was a development of reliable market research, including operating concept for the new train connection. After the assessment of the potential, the technical and organizational requirements were analysed.

Market study on ‚Rail Motorway services’ (Road Rail), between the Port of Calais and Germany, the Benelux and Eastern Europe Port de Calais
  scope of services: The port Calais plans to create new and sustainable offers for hinterland transport. For this project the LUB Consulting GmbH was commissioned to draw up a market analysis. The task was to analyse the volume of freight traffic and freight flows across the Armel Channel (Ärmelkanal), in particular through the port of Calais. For this purpose the potential of Calais for intermodal transport relationship should be estimated. The analysis of mainly transported goods, businesses companies and transport chains was another part of the market analysis. As a result, a detailed market analysis could be offered, including a price range and numerous recommendations for 'Rail Motorway Service '. The project was realised together with the French consulting company JMJ Conseil.

HINTERPORT (Common Learning Action Marco Polo II) Promotion of hinterland transport cooperative solutions for integrated operation of sea-inland ports, in collaboration with: ISL Bremen

  scope of services: Professional and organisational support for the client. 17 partners from 9 EU countries were involved. The aim was to build a network of seaports, transport operators and freight villages or intermodal terminal operators, to identify the positive examples of the hinterland transport relocation and to check the transferability to other transport corridors.

Freight conception Saxony sub-project C: evaluation of the location and accessibility of intermodal terminals and Railports LISt Gesellschaft für Verkehrswesen und ingenieurtechnische Dienstleis-tungen mbH
  scope of services: Evaluation of the location, the accessibility of intermodal terminals and Railports in Saxony as a sub-project C of the Freight conception Saxony. This sub-project comprehends the allocation of potentials in rail and road transport, the evaluation of rail and road accessibility of the access points as well as the identification of deficits and development potentials respectively. The results were presented in GIS-based maps.

Implementation of the intermodal transport relationship between Rottterdam (NL) and Frankfurt/Oder ITL Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH
  scope of services: In order to complement the former connections to the intermodal terminals Frankfurt/Oder, a direct rail connection was established between the three terminals of the Rotterdam Port Pernis Combi Terminal (PCT), Maasvlakte-Terminal, APM Delta Termina and the intermodal terminal Frankfurt/Oder. Therefore LUB wrote a grand application according to the policy for funding of new connections for intermodal transport on rail- and waterways, on behalf of ITL Railroad Company Ltd. The Frankfurt/Oder region was supposed to get connected to the seaport Rotterdam. The application was approved and the connection has established itself in the market.

Implementation of the intermodal transport relationship between freight village Dresden and Port Hamburg (Emos Spedition GmbH) Emons Spedition GmbH
  scope of services: In October 2006 the first regular intermodal connection between the freight village Dresden and the Hamburg Port was established. The Emons Spedition in collaboration with the haulage operator the ITL Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH (Railway Company) activated the route between Dresden and the Hamburg Port. Today there is a stop in hall and a feeder link between the halls and the Freight Village Erfurt. In order to implement this project the LUB Consulting GmbH developed the market potential analysis and successfully applied for funding to the Federal Railway Authority (Eisenbahn-Bundesamt). Thanks to this applying for funding and analysed potential, in october 2006 the project could be realised and the intermodal connection has been successfully used till today.

Intermodal freight railway connection between the Port of Rostock and Dresden-Friedrichstadt as a part of a new railway system between Scandinavia, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe Kühne + Nagel (AG & Co.) KG
 

scope of services: For the implementation of a intermodal freight railway connection between the port of Rostock and Dresden-Friedrichstadt as a part of a new railway system between Scandinavia, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, the LUB elaborated a grant application according to the SMWA funding guidelines for the funding of transport infrastructure financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The aim of this transport connection was the modal shift from the road to the rail freight transport between the Port of Rostock and Freight Village Berlin-West (Wüstermark) and Freight Village Dresden involving the regional rail ports in feeder traffic (for example Glauchau ). The application was successfully applied and the requested funding was granted.

CONventional Goods TRAnSporT in Single Wagon Load Kühne + Nagel (AG & Co.) KG
 

scope of services: For the Project CONTRAST der Kuehne + Nagel (AG & Co.) KG created the LUB Consulting GmbH a Marco Polo grant application of the EU. The project includes a "Modal Shift Action" in a single wagon load traffic between Scandinavia and South-Eastern Europe. It should be an optimized solution for single wagon traffic along the shortest path. The corridor connects Rostock Wustermark (LVN West Berlin) and Dresden-Friedrichstadt (FV Dresden) with Bad Schandau / Czech border. From there, the corridor leads to Breclav (CZE) and Vienna (AUT) and to Sopron (HUN). From here, the goods are transported in block trains to the destinations in the Balkans and Turkey. The innovative approach of the corridor is mainly that the train does not operate between marshalling yards, but between so-called Railports. In this context, a market survey along the corridor was developed, which was the basis for the application process. On the basis of the market survey and inventory amounts of Kuehne and Nagel, a comprehensive business plan for the entire duration of the project was created. Based on the forecast transport volume displaced over the project period, the amount of funding was calculated and applied in the 3rd quarter of 2013.

Feasibility study for the construction of intermodal land bridges between the Port hinterland Frankfurt (Oder) and sites in Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan Investor Center Ostbrandenburg GmbH
 

scope of services: The aim was the development of intermodal transport chains between the EU and Eastern Europe as a part of the EU Interreg IVB project Amber Coast Logistics (ACL), operating under the coordination of the Hamburg Port Marketing (HHM). Within the framework of the project the market analysis is created and the potential cooperation partners for the location Brandenburg / Frankfurt (Oder) are identified. Based on discussions with interested partners, especially the operators and logistics villages, the feasibility study should be created for the construction of intermodal land bridges between the hinterland Frankfurt (Oder) Port and the locations in Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

Evaluation of previous studies on the navigability of the Elbe and Saale in the context of the EU INTERREG project LABEL, in collaboraton with: UNICONSULT Hamburg

scope of services: For the European Community project LABEL was made the evaluation of cur-rent studies on the subject of inland navigation, to merge these studies and identify the gaps in the current research. For each of the 69 studies was created a short summary of the relevant results as well as the overview and analysis based on an evaluation matrix.

Feasibility study for a trimodal transhipment facility at port Arneburg Stadt Arneburg/Elbe
 

scope of services: The feasibility study was to investigate the technological and economic feasibility of a tri-modal transfer station with its own harbor loading equipment. For this purpose, the potential and the requirements of the local catchment company was acquired and derived the dimensions and technical configuration of the trimodal handling facility. Further variants were evaluated for an operator model.


2009 - 2010

Application for the QUALIST project submitted to the Central Europe Programme. Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport
 

scope of services: LUB was commissioned to form a project consortium and to develop the project application. The whole application process was supervised by LUB, under the terms of the Central Europe Programme 2015. The application was approved in fall 2009, subject to conditions. LUB participated in developing project objectives and contets of QUALIST, on wich all german, czech, and austrian partners agreed. The wide knowledge about the charateristics of the saxon region and the good relations to the czech partner ARD were contributing to the success. The QUALIST project focuses on mesures to tackle challenges of small towns, challenges caused by decreasing economy and population.

Professional supervision of the expert group "rail freight transport in the pan-european transport corridor III" Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport
 

scope of services: The expert group works on intensification of the rail freight transport in the corridor, particularly with regard to harmonization of technical standards for infrastructure and border traffic (i.e. transition standard to wide gauge), and on the establishment of innovative competitive transport offers.

scope of services: Analysis of cross-border traffic and its volume, in the public transport and freight transport sector, between Germany, Poland, and Czech Republic; development of the Trans-EA method for valuation of cross-border infrastructure for the use of regional players, it includes infrastructural and operational measures; test of Trans-EA under the circumstances of the Free State of Saxony; professional supervision of an expert group with project partners from Poland and Finland, including modification of the method to meet the requirements in this counties.

Among other things the effects from Freight Villages as logistic interface for supply transports in urban areas was examined.
